Not Surprising We’re #1

Over 900 citizens voted for what they consider to be one of the greatest wonders of this area. In response to the new title, Deputy Market Clerk David Drummond says “It’s not surprising the final tally revealed the 130 year old ‘jewel in the crown of Saint John’ that is the Saint John City Market. This recognition helps us to realize our goal of making the Market the most successful it has been in 130 Years.”

“The unique blend of a warm welcome, great local and international foods, Maritime and local art and crafted items and a rich and lively history all combine to create a very special experience for daily and first time visitors. But what makes the market so special is the people. With so many dedicated and hard working Merchants and the addition of over 80 new and unique venders in the past two years, the market atmosphere is a wonder!”

The Greater Saint John 12 wonders were officially announced at a Fusion event August 8th. Mayor Norm MacFarlane read the list of top 12 physical sites unique to the communities of the greater Saint John Area, including the City of Saint John, Quispamsis, Grand Bay-Westfield, Rothesay and St. Martins.

Local photographer Jason Harper will capture each diverse site at its best for a 2008 calendar, which will be available for sale this fall. Proceeds from the sale of this calendar will help fusion to hire a full time employee to assist them in their endeavors.

Calendars are expected to be available in September at various locations around the City, including the City Market. A portion of the proceeds will go to the new Skate Park being developed near Station Street.
