Sue Burnham
‘Market Lights’ 11” X 14” Oil
Sue Burnham, a Maritime self-taught artist creates moving scenes that reflect warm memories of days gone by. Growing up in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Sue developed a love of nature and Historical settings. She practiced crafts that eventually led to woodworking and tole- painting. Watercolour sketches soon followed. Sue now concentrates on oil paintings as her medium of choice. She relies on her travels and her hobby of photography for sources of ideas for inspiration.
Now living in Saint John, New Brunswick, Sue paints scenes from both areas that she calls home. Paintings that evoke feelings of peace, contentment and hometown community spirit.
Sue likes the challenge of recreating an honest representation of a scene but her first goal as an artist is to capture an emotion within her work. Sue favors painting scenes from different seasons, the changes they bring and the fun found in each.
On the past few years, Sue’s paintings and prints have been shown in various art sales and shows and are presently displayed in Café’s and Studios throughout the Maritimes. Many individuals and organizations have either presented or been presented pieces of Sue’s work to commemorate special events and/or people.
Sue is the busy mother of two and only beginning what promises to be an enriching artistic career. Her future goals are to learn more techniques and to try new areas of creative expression, painting and otherwise. We can only hope she continues to share her work with her neighbors and the Maritime community.
